How can Sustainable landscaping fit into the ‘new economy’ and the new ecology for lowering green house gas? Well that is a good question, the main hurdle for any sustainable business is politics. Will the politicians support incentives to go ‘GREEN’ and what about green technology!
The Green Industry has many issues with green house gasses, pesticides, green waste and energy consumption. Most all of our equipment and power tools use petroleum based fuels which adds to green house emissions. We pollute the ground water with pesticides and fertilizers and plant to many lawns which uses to much water.
With the economy in a bad state for landscape professionals and project and jobs are far a few between how can the industry get back on it’s feet when the economy ramps back up. I propose that States, Cities and Federal government provide tax credits for any home owner or business that designs and builds sustainable landscape. Also the Green Industry needs to provide incentives to create new technologies for products and materials that meet sustainability requirements. This would not only create more jobs but improve the environment.
So what can you do to help promote ‘Sustainable Landscaping’? Get as much information as you can then pass it on to your friends and colleagues. Contact your state and federal representatives and tell them you want their support for tax incentives, grants and public education so we all can ‘Reduce Reuse Recycle’ Keep up the good fight!
